It is highlighting some of the progress the Task Force has made with regards to the specification of 25 Gb/s Ethernet and highlighting some areas it would like to highlight that would be beneficial to the industry for the SFF committee to be aware. filename = h:\d-SFF\1507_ADD_IEEE.pdf Transceiver SSWG updated SFF-8024 to Rev 3.2 ====================================================================== Subject: Liaison statement from ITU-T SG15 to SFF/SFP MSA Committee - SG15-LS245D Date: Tue, 7 Jul 2015 15:52:48 Please find the attached Liaison statement from ITU-T SG15 to SFF/SFP MSA Committee: SG15-LS245: LS on RSSI information accuracy in optical modules filename = h:\d-SFF\1507_ADD_ITU.pdf Transceiver chair Dave Lewis responded: Dear Mr Hiroshi Ota, I was in attendance at the SG15 plenary last week and did note that this question came up during the discussions. I will add these questions to the agenda of our next Transceivers SSWG (special subject working group) meeting to be held in Salem, MA during the week of August 3rd. I will prepare a response to you after that meeting. One point to note is that the SFF Committee has two active management interface specifications: SFF-8472 which is for serial modules such as SFP+/SFP28; and SFF-8636 which is for 4-lane parallel modules such as QSFP+/QSFP28 and also mini-multilane HD modules. A change to accuracy specifications would affect multiple groups of users so it would perhaps be something to consider as an optional feature rather than a mandatory change. ====================================================================== The Transceiver SSWG held webex/telecons to update SFF-8024, and a question arose on 'fanout'. Here is an attempt at a description. - a fanout cable is an assembly with a single connector at one end and more than one connector at the other - a distribution cable is an assembly of individual fibres bundled in an outer sheath which uses a fanout kit to separate the fibres into jacketed fanout cables - a breakout cable is an assembly of jacketed cables bundled in an outer sheath which uses a furcation to separate individual cables into fanout cables. What is a fanout when there is no modifier?
