                  SMART Application Guide for ATA Interface

Abstract:  This document describes the applications for SMART (Self 
Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) which is intended to protect 
user data by preventing unscheduled system downtime that may be caused by 
predictable degradation and/or fault of the device. This is done by the device 
itself monitoring and storing critical performance and calibration parameters.


The members voted in September 1999 that this specification Expire as the 
content has been included in the ATA standards by T13.
